The newly redesigned Forest Declaration Dashboard is now live, offering an enhanced user experience and updated data to track progress toward the 2030 forest goals for biodiversity and climate. A collaboration between the Forest Declaration Assessment and Systems Change Lab, the Dashboard is a dynamic progress tracking tool which aims to increase transparency, enable more detailed analysis, and support decision-making at global and national levels.

The revamped and re-named Dashboard (previously the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration Dashboard) now features more intuitive navigation, updated data and clear summaries on the status of progress, and additional indicators, including new metrics on forest degradation and illegal deforestation.

Why do we need the Dashboard?

How do you know what progress you are making on your goals if you don’t track it?

In recent years, countries have set a shared goal to halt and reverse forest loss and land degradation by 2030. But so far, countries have not yet adopted a mechanism to track progress toward that goal. To fill that gap, the Forest Declaration Assessment together with Systems Change Lab developed the Forest Declaration Dashboard.

What information does the Dashboard provide?

The Forest Declaration Dashboard provides users with data and findings on forests, biodiversity, and climate across countries and key themes. The Dashboard presents:

  1. An overall picture of global progress toward the 2030 goals, highlighting the critical gaps where more action is needed; and
  2. A detailed look at each of the indicators that are used to track progress toward 2030 goals, including why the indicator was chosen, what it can tell about progress, its status, and the methodology and data sources behind the indicator.

Data and findings are easily understood, accessible, and compelling and allow users to quickly understand and communicate the status and context of 2030 forest goals.

Who is the Dashboard for?

The Forest Declaration Dashboard is for everyone who has a stake in how we use, manage, and protect the world’s forests and lands. That means the Dashboard is for governments who have endorsed the 2030 goals themselves, and for those who want to hold those governments accountable to their commitments.

What is new on the updated Dashboard?

NEW NAME: Forest Declaration Dashboard (previously Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration Dashboard)

  • In addition, the Dashboard now has its own logo. Both the new name and logo create a clear link with the Forest Declaration Assessment and help users quickly understand the connection to the Assessment’s core mission of tracking progress on 2030 forest and land goals.

NEW INDICATORS:

  • Loss of forest landscape integrity as a measure of forest degradation
  • Illegal deforestation and absence of corruption as measures of robust governance systems to accelerate an economic transition

NEW FEATURES AND IMPROVEMENTS:

  • New design: The entire website has been reimagined and redesigned.
  • More intuitive navigation: The subpage navigation menu has been streamlined and in-page scrolling has been reduced.
  • New filter functions: Users can filter for datapoints and findings by country or theme (Overarching forest goals; Sustainable production and development; Finance for forests; Rights and governance).
  • New search function: Users can search for keywords, both across the entire site and on each subpage.
  • Concise summaries on the status of progress: The homepage, all subpages, and all indicator groups prominently feature concise summaries of progress toward 2030 forest goals.
  • Clear organization of content: Indicators are now organized in meaningful thematic groups. For each group, there is a clear summary on the status of progress and the methodology used for tracking progress.
